Prunella Scales

Prunella Margaret Rumney West Scales CBE (née Illingworth; born 22 June 1932 in Sutton Abinger, Surrey, England; died 27 October 2025 in London, England) was an English actress. She was best known for playing Basil Fawlty's wife Sybil in the BBC comedy Fawlty Towers (1975-1979).

I received Ms Scales's autograph through the mail in August 2015. The photo was then signed by John Cleese as well in 2021.

John Cleese

John Marwood Cleese (born 27 October 1939 in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England) is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer. Emerging from the Cambridge Footlights in the 1960s, he first achieved success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a scriptwriter and performer on The Frost Report. In the late 1960s, he co-founded Monty Python, the comedy troupe responsible for the sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus. Along with his Python co-stars Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman, Cleese starred in Monty Python films, which include Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Life of Brian (1979) and The Meaning of Life (1983).

Cleese and first wife Connie Booth co-wrote the sitcom Fawlty Towers (1975-79) and he starred in it as Basil Fawlty. Cleese co-starred with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, and former Python colleague Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda (1989) and Fierce Creatures (1997), both of which he also wrote. For A Fish Called Wanda he was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He has also starred in Time Bandits (1981) and Rat Race (2001) and has appeared in many other films, including Silverado (1985), Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), two James Bond films (as R and Q), two Harry Potter films (as Nearly Headless Nick) and the last three Shrek films.

The photo below (already signed through the mail by Prunella Scales in August 2015) was signed by Mr Cleese after Monopoly Events's An Evening with John Cleese in Manchester on 19 July 2021. I met Mr Cleese in person at Comic Con Scotland in Edinburgh on 25 October 2026.

Bernard Cribbins

Bernard Joseph Cribbins, OBE (born 29 December 1928 in Oldham, Lancashire, England; died 28 July 2022) was an English actor, comedian, and singer whose career spanned over 70 years. During the 1960s, Cribbins became known in the UK for his successful novelty records including "The Hole in the Ground" and "Right Said Fred", and made appearances in comedy films including Two-Way Stretch (1960) and the Carry On series. He appeared as Albert Perks in The Railway Children (1970), as barman Felix Forsythe in Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy (1972) and as pretentious hotel guest Mr. Hutchinson in the Fawlty Towers episode "The Hotel Inspectors" (1975). He narrated the BBC children's television programme The Wombles (1973–1975) and was a regular and prolific reader for the BBC series Jackanory from 1966 to 1991.

Our Disappearing Planet organised a private signing with Mr Cribbins and I ordered a personalised Fawlty Towers photo back in August 2020. Unfortunately Mr Cribbins signed and personalised a Dr Who photo for me instead of the one I had requested. As I had already waited five or six months for it, I agreed with Our Disappearing Planet to just sent me the personalised Dr Who photo and one of the Fawlty Towers ones they had in stock.
